Sun, Sea and No Stress: Three THB Hotels for Your Next Island Holiday

Grey skies, early sunsets, heating on. If you're already daydreaming about warm sand and a cold drink by the pool, you're not alone. The Spanish islands are some of the easiest sunshine escapes from the UK, and with a little planning you can find a great hotel without paying over the odds.

THB is a Spanish hotel group with around 18 hotels across Mallorca, Ibiza and Lanzarote. We've picked three for three very different holidays: one for couples, one for families, and one for a simple beach break.

1. THB Ocean Beach, Ibiza: best for couples and friends

Check prices and availability

Picture yourself on a sunbed by the pool, looking out over San Antonio bay, with a drink from the pool bar. That's THB Ocean Beach: an adults-only hotel right on the seafront, so the pool area stays calm, with no splashing children.

It's a small hotel with just 63 rooms and a great spot for Ibiza's famous sunsets and nightlife. Book directly with THB and you also get free daytime access to the well-known O Beach Ibiza club, as long as you reserve at reception.

What we like

  • Adults only, so it's peaceful by the pool
  • Seafront location with bay views
  • Pool with Balinese beds and a pool bar
  • Free O Beach Ibiza access when you book direct
  • A two-bedroom suite option, handy for four friends

Good to know

  • San Antonio is lively, especially in summer. Great if you want buzz, less so if you want total quiet.
  • There's one pool, so it can get busy at peak times.
  • All inclusive isn't listed for this hotel.

2. THB Tropical Island, Lanzarote: best for families

Check prices and availability

If your holiday needs to keep the kids happy (and give you a break too), this resort is hard to beat. There are 15 pools, including five just for children, plus two splash parks with water cannons, tipping buckets and slides. There's a kids' club, a mini disco, and even a football academy for 5 to 15-year-olds, coached in English.

Grown-ups aren't forgotten. There's an adults-only area with its own pool and bar, a spa, a gym and tennis courts. Everyone stays in apartments with a kitchen area and a balcony or terrace, which makes life with little ones much easier.

Lanzarote is warm all year round, so this works for an October half-term or a winter getaway, not just summer.

What we like

  • 15 pools and two splash parks
  • Kids' club, entertainment team and football academy
  • Adults-only pool area for some peace and quiet
  • Apartments with kitchen areas
  • All inclusive option, and pools heated in winter
  • Free daily bus to the beach and free parking

Good to know

  • The beach is about 800m away, not on the doorstep.
  • All inclusive has limited availability, so book early if you want it.
  • It's a big, busy resort. Lovely for families, less ideal for couples looking for calm.

3. THB Sa Coma Platja, Mallorca: best for a beach break

Check prices and availability

Some holidays are simple: sun, sea and sand, with as little walking as possible. At Sa Coma Platja, you can go straight from the pool terrace onto the promenade and the sandy beach.

Every room is a 32m² junior suite with a separate sitting area and a sofa bed, so there's room to spread out. There's a pool for adults and a smaller one for children, so it suits couples and small families alike. Paddleboarding, kayaking and diving are all on offer at the beach.

What we like

  • Direct beach access from the hotel
  • Spacious junior suites for everyone
  • Buffet with live cooking, plus an à la carte restaurant
  • Water sports right on the beach
  • The Punta de n'Amer nature reserve nearby for walks

Good to know

  • Breakfast and half board are offered. All inclusive isn't listed for this hotel.
  • There's no big kids' club like at Tropical Island.

What to look for when booking a holiday hotel

A few simple checks help you pick the right hotel for your holiday.

  • Who it's for. Adults-only hotels are calmer. Family resorts have kids' clubs and splash parks, but they're busier and noisier.
  • Location. Check how far the beach is, and whether there's a free bus. "Near the beach" can mean anything from a few steps to a short drive.
  • Board options. All inclusive makes budgeting easy. Half board or breakfast only suits you better if you like eating out.
  • Room type. Apartments with a kitchen area are handy with young children. Suites give you more space to spread out.
  • Recent reviews. Read the latest guest reviews for your specific hotel, and ask about any building work during your dates.
  • Time of year. Mallorca and Ibiza are best from late spring to early autumn. Lanzarote is warm all year round.

What do guests say about THB?

Feedback is mixed, so it pays to do a little homework. THB's Trustpilot page scores 3.0 out of 5, though from only 29 reviews covering all its hotels. Guests often praise friendly staff, clean rooms, the pools and the varied buffets. Complaints include noise (thin walls, and building work at some hotels), dated rooms at some properties, and slow check-in.

Our tip: before you book, read the most recent guest reviews for your specific hotel on a big booking site, and ask THB about any building work planned during your dates.

So, which one should you book?

Book Ocean Beach for a couples' trip or a holiday with friends, with sunsets and a bit of buzz.

Book Tropical Island if you're travelling with children and want them entertained all day.

Book Sa Coma Platja if you just want to wake up and walk straight onto the beach.

Common questions

Which island is warmest in winter?

Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands, stays warm all year. Mallorca and Ibiza are at their best from late spring to early autumn.

Do I need a visa to visit Spain from the UK?

UK tourists don't need a visa for short holidays in Spain, but you'll need a valid passport. EU border rules have been changing, so check the latest entry requirements on GOV.UK before you travel.

Is all inclusive worth it?

If you have children or like a drink by the pool, it can work out cheaper and makes budgeting easier. If you plan to eat out a lot, half board may suit you better.

Is it cheaper to book direct with the hotel?

It can be. THB offers a best price guarantee when you book direct, and some perks, like free O Beach access at Ocean Beach, are only for direct bookings. It's still worth comparing prices.

When is the cheapest time to visit the Spanish islands?

Outside the school holidays is usually cheapest. Spring and autumn can be good value, with warm weather and fewer crowds.
